Domestic Violence

This topic featured heavily in the interviews held with community members. I acknowledge the highly sensitive nature of this topic in its own right. When considering the added cultural sensitivities, it cannot be understated the importance of approaching this issue with care and consideration. DV is not a topic we aim to be included in the pilot program of the UNLC outreach program. However, considering the complex nature of the topic, I believe it is important to attempt to grapple with it from the beginning, to be best prepared once the UNLC has developed a relationship of trust with community members to address this topic.

Community Member Information Sheets

I created information sheets aimed to be distributed to community members, accompanying the informal educational presentation delivered by the students and solicitors from the UNLC.

First Draft

This was my initial draft document created. A particular challenge I found was tailoring the language on such a sensitive topic to the targeted demographic with lower English proficiency, whilst still expressing the legal complexities of the topic.

Second Draft

After receiving constructive feedback from UNLC solicitor Lisa Molloy, I made several adjustments.

Student Information Sheets

I created an information sheet aimed to be distributed to the students and solicitors participating in the program focused on raising awareness and highlighting the importance of cultural sensitivities when approaching such delicate topics.
